Youth Development Program - Youth Commission

Mission
The mission of the Youth Commission is to serve as a voice for the youth within city government. Youth Commission members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve as an advisory body to the City Council. The members are teens who live in the City of Dallas and are enrolled as full-time students in grades 9-12.

• The Youth Commission is involved in a variety of programs and special activities, including:
  • Hosting town hall meetings to hear from community youth about their needs, issues, and concerns.
  • Review and comment on City department initiatives for youth as they are being developed and modified.
  • Obtain leadership skills and prepare members to move into leadership positions on other boards, commissions, and in civic organizations.
  • Plan and organize youth events including: youth leadership conferences, national youth observance days such as: Make a Difference Day, National Youth Service Day, and other special events.

The Youth Commission represents youth in the city of Dallas! We are 30 diverse young people between the ages of 15-18. We come from all over the city to improve the lives of youth in Dallas, Texas by advising the people in government who make decisions that affect us.

The Youth Commission know that Dallas youth are knowledgeable and powerful. We want to engage youth voices so that they can work with us in speaking up for youth and making positive change in our communities.

In order to represent all youth in Dallas, Texas, we need your help. We can’t do it alone. Speak up and we will listen!!!!
