​Emergency Vehicles, Tow Services, and Immobilization

Emergency Vehicles: 

Transportation Regulation exists to provide for the protection of the public interest as it relates to transporting of the sick, injured, and deceased within the city.  The division regulates emergency ambulance service and private ambulance service to protect the public health and safety while promoting the public convenience and necessity.   See Chapter 15D.

 

Vehicle Tow Services: 

Transportation Regulation provides for the protection of the public interest as it relates to the removal of wrecked, disabled, and illegally parked vehicles from public streets and other public property.  The division regulates emergency wrecker and motor vehicle tow service to be administered in a manner that protects the public health and safety while promoting the public convenience and necessity.  See Chapter 48A for vehicle tow service and Chapter 15D for emergency wrecker service.

 

Immobilization: 

Transportation Regulation provides for the protection of the public interest as it relates to the parking of vehicles on parking lots and to the immobilization of those vehicles by applying a boot to a vehicle without the consent of the vehicle owner or operator.  The division regulates vehicle immobilization service that protects the public convenience and necessity.  See Chapter 48C.

My vehicle was towed. What do I need to do?

If your vehicle was towed from an apartment complex, parking lot, or other private property parking area, you should look for signs posted on the property to restrict parking that will identify the towing company.  If you are unable to locate any signs,  contact the apartment complex management to determine which company is contracted to do their towing.  You may also contact 3-1-1 and they will be able to tell you if your vehicle was towed and by whom.

My vehicle was wrongfully towed.   How do I file a complaint?

Call 311 or click on I want to report a violation.  Please attach a copy of the receipt received from the wrecker service or storage facility when the vehicle was reclaimed.

A complaint may also be filed in the Justice of the Peace court to recover towing fees and the cost to repair any damage that may have occurred as a result of the vehicle being towed may be possible.  For more information, contact the Dallas County Constable's office at 214-653-7121.

I think my vehicle was fraudulently booted. What do I do?

Call 311 or click on I want to report a violation . A request will be made for a brief letter describing the incident (be sure to include your name, address and phone number so staff can contact you as well as a copy of your receipt).
