Through the operation of the 15 municipal courts and hearing officer court, the Judiciary is responsible for the adjudication of all City of Dallas cases arising under City ordinances and all state law misdemeanors punishable by fine only.

The judges also issue search and arrest warrants, administer juvenile magistrate warnings up through felony cases, set bail amounts and approve appearance and appeal bonds. Judges also consider deferred disposition, defensive driving, work release, community service and time payment requests. Municipal judges also conduct wedding ceremonies.
