Garbage Collection Overview

The City of Dallas provides reside nces with a 96-gallon roll cart for automated garbage collection. Once per week, residential garbage and recycling is collected by Sanitation Services. Residents are responsible for keeping their carts clean and odor free by periodically rinsing them with a little detergent and a garden hose. For ordering new roll carts, please see Roll Cart Options below.

Collection Frequency

Residential garbage is collected once per week. To find your day of service, Click Here and enter your address.


Please place your roll cart facing the point of collection and allow for 3 feet of space on the left and right side of the roll cart and 1 1/2 feet of space to the rear of the roll cart from any fence, gas meter, telephone pole, utility box, tree, shrub, additional collection container, or other potential obstruction.

Bagged garbage should be contained in the roll cart, there should be no bags on top of the roll cart or on the side of the roll cart. Your roll cart must be placed in the alley or at the curb by 7am the morning of your collection day. The roll cart should not be blocked by vehicles, objects, or overhanging tree limbs and it should be brought in no later than 8am on the day following collection day.

Items Not Accepted

Do not place hot ashes, yard debris, concrete or rocks, clothing, large pieces of metal, dirt, construction debris or household hazardous waste (e.g., batteries, oil, cleaning products, paint, and antifreeze) in the roll cart. Missed Collection

If your roll cart is not serviced by 6 pm on your regularly scheduled collection day, please Click Here and select the Service Type: Garbage, Recycling, Brush Collection Services to report a missed pickup.  To speak to a Customer Service Agent, please dial 3-1-1 (dial 214-670-3111 outside the City limits) and follow the prompts. 

Additional Roll Carts

Need another garbage roll cart? Additional garbage carts are available for an additional monthly fee of $10.56 (per roll cart) and can be requested by calling 3-1-1. If you would prefer to enter a Service Request, please Click Here and then select the Service Type: Garbage Roll Cart.

A recycling roll cart can be ordered free of charge, by calling 3-1-1 or clicking Here and selecting the Service Type: Recycling Roll Cart New.

Roll Cart Repairs and Replacement

If your cart is damaged, please call 3-1-1 for repairs or replacements. You can also use the online service request form, and select the Service Type: Garbage Roll Cart. The City will repair minor damage from normal use. Any cart with damages as a result of abuse or neglect by the property owner will be replaced at a charge of $49.59 per cart.
