Building Inspection Advisory, Examining and Appeals Board


The Building Inspection Advisory, Examining, and Appeals Board was established in order to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the building official relating to the application and interpretation of the codes. Board members are appointed by the city council upon nomination by the city manager and serve without compensation. Meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month (except July), as needed.

Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to make recommendations concerning the City of Dallas construction codes?
Do you have a few hours a month to participate? The City of Dallas is looking for people to fill the following critical positions on the Building Inspection Advisory, Examining and Appeals Board.

Vacant Positions

  1. One general building contractor, having at least five years’ experience in the construction of commercial buildings.
  2. One registered master electrician, having at least five years of active experience as an electrical contractor in electrical construction of residential buildings.
  3. One registered master electrician, having at least five years of active experience as an electrical contractor in electrical construction of commercial and industrial buildings.
  4. One registered electrician having at least five years of active experience as an electrician, who at the time of appointment is not a registered electrical contractor.
  5. One registered plumbing contractor having at least five years of experience in the installation of plumbing in the construction of residential buildings.
  6. One registered plumbing contractor having at least five years of experience in the installation of plumbing in the construction of commercial and industrial buildings.
  7. One heating, ventilating, and air conditioning contractor having at least five years of experience in the installation of mechanical equipment in the construction of residential buildings.
  8. One heating, ventilating and air conditioning contractor having at least five years of experience in the installation of mechanical equipment in the construction of commercial and industrial buildings.

Qualifications for all City of Dallas Boards I Commissions
Dallas City Code, Chapter 8, Section 1.4

  • Resident of the City of Dallas for at least 6 months
  • Qualified voter
  • No criminal record that is considered by the City Council as a disqualification
  • Not an adversary party to pending litigation or claim against the City or city employee
  • Not an employee or a business associate of either an adversary party or a representative of an adversary party
  • Not in arrears on city taxes, water service charges or other obligations owed the city
  • Have a creditable record of attendance and performance in any previous board service
  • Has never been finally convicted of two or more felony offenses
