Dallas' Third Party Green Building Program

​In September 2011, the City of Dallas began accepting third party plan review and inspection results for the "Green Building Program". Registration as a third party provider is required and attendance at an orientation is mandatory.

Third party providers will be registered for orientation in two categories. The categories are for single-family and commercial buildings. Each orientation will provide specific requirements for these categories. Under the amended Phase-2 program, the provider qualification requirements are as listed below:

 

Requirements to become a Residential Green Provider:

  1. A third party provider must hold one or more of the following current certifications by:
    • ICC: Green Building certifications for Plan review and inspections; Residential
    • USGBC: LEED AP with specialty; Residential (Refer: www.usgbc.org for more information)
    • Green Built Texas Verifier; Residential
  2. Minimum 2 years documented experience in green building in one of the following:
    • Design
    • Construction
    • Management, or
    • Inspection
  3. Attend and complete a mandatory training program by the City of Dallas.
  4. Pass Dallas Green Building Code exam administered by the City of Dallas (at the end of training).

Requirements to become a Commercial Green Provider:

  1. A third party provider must hold one or more of the following current certifications by:
    • ICC: Green Building certification: IgCC Commercial Plans Examiner; (Refer:www.iccsafe.org for more information)
    • ICC: Green Building certification: IgCC Commercial Inspector; (Refer: www.iccsafe.org for more information)
    • USGBC: LEED AP with specialty; Commercial (Refer: www.usgbc.org for more information)
  2. Minimum 2 years documented experience in green building in one of the following:
    • Design
    • Construction
    • Management, or
    • Inspection
  3. Attend and complete a mandatory training program by City of Dallas.
  4. Pass Dallas Green Building Code exam administered by the City of Dallas (at the end of training).            Listed below is the schedule for the classes.   • Residential Orientation - Octbober 5, 2023  9AM-3PM
  • Commercial Orientation - October 25, 2023 9AM -3PM

Please Note:

  • Class will be virtual using Microsoft Teams.
  • Class on a particular date will get rescheduled if there are less than 10 registrations per class.
  • You are required to send a copy of your credentials and verifiable documented experience by email to meenal.chauk@dallas.gov prior to the orientation class you are scheduled for.
  • Please enclose detailed information about your 2 years experience in working on green buildings along with a notarized affidavit.
  • We also suggest you to have the 2015 IgCC with you when you come for the commercial class, as you will need to refer to it for the exam. You can order it online at iccsafe.org.
  • There will be a mandatory, open book 60-minute test online with 50 questions after the class.
  • Lunch (not provided by the City of Dallas) break will be an hour approximately from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.

Registration for this orientation is required. Please register by contacting  meenal.chauk@dallas.gov for the date and time that you would like to attend. A confirmation will be returned to you by email. Additional orientation events will be scheduled on a monthly basis.
