The Office of Historic Preservation provides services related to historic districts, historic structures, and potential historic districts and structures. These services include Landmark (historic) Designation, Certificates of Appropriateness (approval forms for work on landmark structures), and administering tax incentive programs within Historic Districts and on individual Historic Structures. View the Historic Overlay District ordinance. The City of Dallas has an opportunity to meaningfully commit to reducing racial disparities & assisting in preserving the history and culture of historically marginalized communities. Historic designation via zoning is just one tool. To provide a truly equitable preservation function, the City will need a collaborative citywide approach of meeting neighborhood needs. A Strategic Plan has been developed that outlines steps and resources required for the City to build a suite of tools that serves all of Dallas.
