Tax Foreclosure and Seizure Warrant Property

The City of Dallas is Trustee of tax foreclosed and seizure warrant properties for the County of Dallas and the Dallas Independent School District. These properties can be vacant lots, vacant tracts, homes or commercial buildings.  The law firm of Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, LLP ("LGBS"), forecloses on delinquent tax properties on behalf of the taxing entities. After obtaining a Judgement or Seizure Warrant against the property owner, the Sheriff is ordered to sell the property at auction to the highest bidder at a Sheriff's Sale held the first Tuesday of each month. LGBS maintains a list of properties scheduled for sale at the next Sheriff's Sale on its web site at www.publicans.com by the 15th of the month for the following month. Their phone number is 214-880-0089.

Properties that are not sold at the Sheriff's Sale are "struck off" to the City of Dallas, as trustee for the other Taxing entities, via a Sheriff's Deed. The Real Estate Division resells these properties through a competitive sealed bid process. The City resales are held on an as needed basis, usually every two to three months.

We do not maintain a mailing list, however, when we schedule a sale, we always advertise with a display Ad in the Real Estate Section of the Dallas Morning News ONE TIME on a Sunday and ONE TIME on the following Monday (a total of two times), two weeks before a Tuesday bid opening. Also, signs are posted on the properties. Properties that do not receive bids are included again in the next advertisement.

The Quitclaim Deeds to these properties will contain no warranties of any kind. These properties are subject to the prior owner's right of redemption, if any. The City will not provide a Title Policy. The properties are sold "as is" and " with all faults" and the City has no responsibility for their condition. Bidders should check for outstanding or pending code enforcement actions including but not limited to repair or demolition orders.

The City makes no warranty concerning zoning or whether these properties can be utilized for any purpose. It is the bidders responsibility  to  examine  all  applicable building codes and ordinances to determine that the properties in question can be used for the purposes desired.

The City will require bidders to certify that they have no outstanding City of Dallas judgements or tax delinquencies and that they are not City of Dallas employees.

The City of Dallas assumes no responsibility as to the accuracy of any facts relating to these properties. All sales are "as is" to the high bidder on a "Buyer Beware" basis.
