Immunization Program
Immunizations are provided for infants, toddlers, school-age children, and adults. These immunizations include diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, mumps, measles, rubella, hepatitis B, polio, and Hib. A $3 fee per clinic visit per child is charged but can be waived. Medicaid is accepted. Call the immunization help line at (214) 670-0519 for scheduling information. Immunizations for foreign travel are available from the Dallas County Health Department, (214) 819-2162.

Public Health Promotion and Education
The Public Health Promotion and Education Program provide services to the community based on public health issues identified as local health needs.

Smoking accounts for 20-30 percent of low birth weight babies, the program provides counseling, education, and support for pregnant mothers who smoke and desire to quit as identified through the city’s WIC program.

Type II diabetes in children and adolescents have been increasing, therefore the program provides education to children and adolescents about the prevention of diabetes. These classes are held at city recreation centers during the summer and after school.

In an effort to improve the immunization rate in Dallas, the program distributes thousands of immunization schedules annually encouraging the vaccination of children. For additional information please call 214-670-1972.

Screening and Education Services
Selected preventive health screenings, immunizations and education may be provided at City of Dallas community clinics and various community settings throughout the city.  Program goals are early detection of chronic health conditions, initiation of appropriate interventions and increased preventive health awareness for City of Dallas residents.  Identification of a medical home, appropriate utilization of primary care providers and attainment of recommended immunizations are major health practices promoted.  Community based services provided include blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and body mass index screenings; referral and follow-up of abnormal findings and preventive health & related education.  Services may be provided at City of Dallas community clinics / events, health fairs, parks and recreation centers, schools, churches and businesses.   For additional information please call 214-670-0521.
