City Council District 13
Councilmember Ann Margolin
I am honored to represent District 13 on the Dallas City Council!
District 13 is defined by wonderful neighborhoods that provide a small-town feel in the midst of life in the 8th largest city in the country. From July 4th parades to Memorial Day picnics and National Night Out celebrations, District 13 residents are active in their communities. Much of this activity is spearheaded by our neighborhood associations and crime watch groups. It is wonderful to work with such active and committed citizens who care deeply about the quality of life in this great city. This commitment makes our neighborhoods safer and stronger and the City of Dallas more vibrant and accountable!
This neighborhood participation combined with the excellent work of the Dallas Police Department (DPD) has led to a decline in all categories of crime this year. The VIP (Volunteers in Patrol) program augments the work of our police. VIP, hosted by the DPD, allows citizens to take a training course that prepares them to patrol their own neighborhoods and report suspicious activity to police. This kind of relationship with our police is credited with reducing crime.
In addition to being a district with strong home ownership, District 13 has a large and diverse business base. We have about 10% of the city’s businesses and 8% of the city’s jobs. It is critical that we maintain this base of business activity within the district and throughout Dallas. Strong businesses provide jobs and generate sales and property taxes that pay for necessary city services. Economic development is critical to keeping our city healthy and strong!
District 13 is home to some of the finest schools in Dallas. We have an excellent mix of public, private and religious schools. I am particularly excited that so many families are supporting our public schools and putting their energy into making them centers of excellence in education. I am committed to supporting our schools and welcome opportunities to participate.
As a member of the Dallas City Council, I want you to know how much I value your ideas and your feedback. It takes all of us working together to make our neighborhoods and our city a great place to live, work, raise our families and retire. I am so excited to represent District 13 and look forward to working with each of you.
Warmest regards,
Ann Margolin
