District 1


Sylvan Avenue and Beckley/Commerce Project Updates

​Two projects of interest to District 1 residents are the reconstruction of Sylvan Avenue, north of I-30, and the reconfiguration of the Beckley Avenue/Commerce St intersection.  Both of these projects are located in adjacent Council District 6 but they are vital routes in and out north Oak Cliff.

Project Updates:

May 23. 2018

Sylvan Ave.:

  • Project name:   Sylvan Avenue from Fort Worth Avenue to Singleton Boulevard (PB06U802)
  • Scope of work:  Includes reconstructing Sylvan Avenue to 4 lane divided with bike lanes, with 10-inch thick reinforced concrete pavement, storm drainage, water and wastewater main replacement.
  • Construction cost:   $7,663,718
  • Construction start:  August 1, 2017
  • Estimated construction complete:   Winter 2019           

 

Accomplishments for the week of May 12, 2018 to May 18, 2018:

  • Continued with the east side pavement subgrade earthwork (final grading following lime treatment);
  • Completed lime treatment of the east side pavement subgrade from Fort Worth Avenue to Singleton Boulevard;
  • Completed cement treatment of the east side pavement subgrade from Fort Worth Avenue to Singleton Boulevard; and
  • Commenced with setting up forms from Fort Worth Avenue to Singleton Boulevard, in anticipation of paving machine placement of concrete pavement (coming up immediately following form setup).

Planned tasks for the week of May 19, 2018 to May 25, 2018:

  • Set up forms and reinforcement bars from Fort Worth Avenue to Fabrication Street, in anticipation of paving machine placement of concrete pavement; and
  • Commence with placing concrete pavement along the east side of Sylvan Avenue from Fort Worth Avenue to Commerce Street (next week, pavement placing of the east side of Sylvan Avenue will be under the railroad bridge and to the north of it to Fabrication Street, and as feasible, to Singleton Boulevard).

 

Beckley Ave./Commerce St.:

  • Project name:        North Beckley Avenue at Commerce Street (PB98N972)
  • Scope of work:      Includes reconstructing North Beckley at Commerce Street, with 11-inch thick reinforced concrete pavement, storm drainage, water/wastewater main replacement, bike lanes, traffic signals, paver crosswalks, and landscaping rain gardens.
  • Construction cost:   $7,088,767
  • Construction start:  October 19, 2015
  • Estimated construction complete:   May 2018

 

Accomplishments for the week of May 12, 2018 to May 18, 2018:

  • Continued filling with soil the landscaping areas and rain gardens;
  • Completed concrete placing at Main Street, and final panels of sidewalk;
  • Temporary striping to be re-established; and
  • Commenced with repairing underground fiber optic ductbank obstruction (south of Commerce Street, east side of Beckley Avenue)

           

Planned tasks for the week of May 19, 2018 to May 25, 2018:

  • Complete repairing underground fiber optic ductbank obstruction (south of Commerce Street, east side of Beckley Avenue);
  • Continue with proposed temporary striping re-establishment; and
  • Continue with landscaping earthwork, sodding and other rain garden soil installation.
