After installation of three signs in Northwest Dallas, several citizens in nearby neighborhoods expressed concerns about the size and design of the sign and felt that they should be more aesthetically pleasing and less intrusive to the neighborhood.    Based on these comments, the City has delayed the installation of any additional signs until these issues are resolved.

City staff has formed a 14 member advisory committee comprised of urban planners, transportation engineers, neighborhood representatives, and architects to assist with the development of a "neighborhood" style sign.   City staff has determined which council districts have existing and planned sign sites located near residential neighborhoods.  Council members from Districts 1, 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13 were asked to appoint a committee member to represent neighborhood concerns in their district.  The committee will be asked to complete the following tasks:

  1. Develop a policy on appropriate sign locations
  2. Develop a policy on public notification prior to sign installation (Draft Policy)
  3. Establish minimum sign size requirements (research study required)
  4. Develop a conceptual design for "neighborhood" style sign supports

The committee has met twice to date and plans to continue to meet regularly until all tasks are completed.  When tasks have been completed, a presentation will be made to the Dallas City Councilīs Transportation and Telecommunications Committee describing issues and recommendations.
