The maps below illustrate existing and potential sign locations.   If you right click on a sign location icon, you can see a digital photo of an existing sign or a computer generated illustration of a prospective sign site.  Once a sign site is approved, property owners within 500 feet of a potential sign site will be notified and allowed to take issue with the sign location prior to installation.

Dynamic Message Signs will only be placed on high-volume arterials.  Signs are strategically placed in advance of the next major cross street to allow drivers time to contemplate an alternate route and, if necessary, change lanes to turn onto that route. In some cases, signs are placed near the freeway on-ramp because the alternative to entering the freeway would be to continue along the arterial and chose between several major cross streets downstream.

The placement of signs throughout the City was based on four criterion:

  1. Frequency of incidents in the area
  2. Volume of traffic affected
  3. Major freeway construction projects
  4. Special event generators

The goal of this implementation strategy is to expedite the benefits of traffic management to the greatest number of motorists affected by congestion; thereby minimizing delays, fuel consumption and vehicle emissions.  For more information on the Dallas/Ft. Worth regional implementation strategy, go to their web site.
