Strategic Customer Services About the Loving My Community Neighborhood Improvement Grant In 2007 at the Dallas Homeowners League Leadership
Boot Camp, Jim Diers, founder of Grounded in the idea “Dallas-Together We Do It Better!” the City of Dallas set out to develop a similar program that could cater to the needs and concerns of residents citywide. By utilizing benchmark information from over 10 cities nationwide and input from community members, the Office of Strategic Customer Services developed a neighborhood empowerment program called the Loving My Community Neighborhood Improvement Grant (LMC). The LMC awards financial assistance to neighborhood groups that present a vision, a passion and a commitment to conduct a community operated project or program to address specific needs in their neighborhood and help improve the quality of life for their area. It is the vision of the City of Dallas that the LMC serve as a vehicle to ignite neighborhood community creativity and empowerment citywide. The LMC will award selected projects and programs a maximum of $10,000 in grant funds before October 2009. Winning applications will present a self-help concept that will not only offer ongoing opportunities for all segments of a community to come together and increase neighborhood interaction but also strengthen community empowerment and improve their quality of life.
