The inaugural 2009 LMC Grant Cycle was a success with over 30 applications to fund projects all over the City of Dallas. Based on the established Evaluation Criteria, the below 11 projects were selected to receive a LMC Grant. We are happy to announce that each of the 6 Service Areas that had submitted applications had at least one winning project during this first cycle.
Below please find a brief description of each awarded project listed by Service Area:
CENTRAL SERVICE AREA
Parks Estate Community Environmental Project (PCEP): Located in the Parks Estate Conservation District, the PCEP will renovate three roadside land triangles owned by the City of Dallas to create outdoor social meeting areas for the neighborhood.

Promise of Peace Community Garden: Families of the Coronado Hills Neighborhood and Mata Elementary will come together to establish a community garden along the East Grand Corridor to promote healthy lifestyles and meaningful relationships.

Gateway to the Arts District: Members of the Bryan Place Neighborhood Association plan to enhance the underpass at Central Expressway and Ross Avenue by cleaning up debris and installing xeriscape landscaping to connect East Dallas and the downtown Arts Disctrict.

NORTHEAST SERVICE AREA
Dixon Branch Waterway Cleanup: Residents of the Dixon Brach/Lochwood Neighborhood will conduct an extensive cleanup of Dixon Branch Creek between Jupiter and Sunland that will serve as the kickoff event for an annual neighborhood cleanup.

Ridgewood Park NA’s Axton Circle Beautification Project: Residents of Ridgewood Park will implement Phase II of an existing beautification project that will make the area environmentally friendly through the installation of solar lights, trash and recycle receptacles and polymer benches made from recycled material.

NORTHWEST SERVICE AREA
Glen Cove Swim Club Curb Appeal Project: Residents of the Glen Cove neighborhood plan to beautify the façade of the Glen Cove Swim Club, which they see as the gateway into their neighborhood.

Median Beautification Project: Members of the Royal Northaven NA will improve a median in a high pedestrian trafficked area with xeriscape principles, water fountain and bench. The median will serve as a community gathering point and an educational tool for water conservation.

SOUTH CENTRAL SERVICE AREA
Twin Oaks Cares: Members of the Twin Oaks NA will increase community connections and neighborhood involvement through the distribution of meeting flyers, providing welcome and sick baskets to new residents and painting street addresses with a symbolic image on curbs within their neighborhood.

SOUTHEAST SERVICE AREA
Our Saviour Community Garden Just Greens Irrigation Project: Located in Pleasant Grove, this community garden that supports local low-income residents as well as area food pantries will install an irrigation system to help increase their produce yield and help more individuals.

SOUTHWEST SERVICE AREA
L.O. Daniel Neighborhood Park: Residents of the L.O. Daniel Neighborhood will transform a vacant lot into a community park for the entire neighborhood.

Reopen Historic WPA Trails in South Keist Park: The Friends of Oak Cliff Parks reestablish the historic WPA trail system in south Keist Park by creating the initial access route and uncovering the original road through the heavily wooded area using “green” principles.

Community Development Wynnewood Heights 24/7 Crime Watch: Members of the Wynnewood Heights 24/7 CW will provide major repairs and minor renovations to the homes of senior, disabled and income-restricted residents to improve their quality of life and increase community pride and neighborhood involvement.
