The City's Tire Abatement Unit removes thousands of dumped tires from public and private properties each year. In addition to being a fire hazard and causing environmental pollution, improperly discarding of tires can lead to breeding grounds for mosquitoes who carry the West Nile virus and also provide a haven for snakes and rodents.
Disposing of used tires is easy. Just drop them off (up to six per year) at the McCommas Bluff Landfill, 5100 Youngblood or the Bachman Transfer Station at 9500 Harry Hines Blvd. The service is free to residents presenting a valid form of identification showing a Dallas address and Dallas Water Utilities bill.
The McCommas Bluff Landfill is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Bachman Transfer Station is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
People who illegally dispose of scrap tires or any other waste in the City of Dallas, can go to jail for up to two years, be fined up to $10,000 or both.
