About Dallas Animal Services
Dallas Animal Services is a municipal government shelter by the City of Dallas. We have more than 30,000 animals coming into our shelter every year. Our mission is to help Dallas be a safe, compassionate, and healthy place for people and animals. We work to control the loose animal population by targeting areas in Dallas where stray dogs are roaming and by working with organizations who work with us in spaying and neutering the animals in Dallas.
We have implemented various programs to our shelter since our goal of increasing the positive outcomes for homeless animals in the city. We have a growing Foster Team who help kittens, puppies, and adult dogs. Our Rescue Team is teaming up with many different local rescue partners and working on transferring dogs to other shelters who need adoptable pets.
One of our programs that focuses around adoptable dogs is our playgroups! We implemented playgroups in December of 2017. We are now able to assess the behavior of dogs playing with each other in our yards. This program is helping share information with citizens by answering the question of "Is that dog friendly with other dogs?". Thanks to the assessments, we have an idea of a dog's energy level and play style. Now our staff can help suggest to citizens on what dog would do well together based on how active a dog is. We still recommend that citizens bring in their dog to meet any potential dog that they are interested in adopting.
