After you file a complaint…

  • It will be investigated to determine whether there is reasonable cause to believe that a fair housing law has been violated.
  • The matter will be filed jointly with HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for investigation.
  • The Dallas Fair Housing Office will attempt to reach an agreement with the parties.  A conciliation agreement to protect both the complaint and the public interest may be executed.  If an agreement is signed, the Dallas Fair Housing Office will take no further action and the case is closed.
  • The final investigation report will be submitted to the City Attorney's Office for determination.

There is no fee for filing a fair housing complaint.
