Office of Risk Management

Risk Management provides services to employees as well as the general public. It administers the City's self-insured workers' compensation and third party liability claims funds; provides insurance requirements for entities doing business with the City as well as verifying the insurance is in compliance with the required insurance and remains in force for the duration of the contract; identifies processes, procedures, operations and workplace hazards that expose the City to financial loss; and manages its purchased insurance program. Risk Management assists departments in minimizing, planning for, and financing the negative consequences of their operations.

The Return to Work (RTW) Program assists permanent employees with their return to employment after they have been temporarily or permanently disabled due to an injury or illness. If the employees are not successful with their job search after being in the RTW program for 90 days, they are referred back to their departments where termination procedures may be initiated. The Recovery unit recovers money that is owed to the City arising from the negligence of a third party (Workers' Compensation and Property Damage).

The Workers' Compensation and Property Damage Subrogation/Recovery unit recovers money that is owed to the City arising from the negligence of a third party.

The Safety and Loss Prevention Team provides expertise in a variety of loss prevention functions such as inspections, training, safety programs/procedures, investigations, audits, appeals, driver safety, risk reporting/analysis and absence management. The Safety team assists departments to evaluate, develop, and implement practices and procedures to remove unacceptable risk in an effective, consistent and timely manner.
