Military Leave for Emergency Declaration
A new type of military leave for an emergency declaration by the governor has been added as a new type of military leave available to City of Dallas employees. Seven days of leave for this type of deployment is available.

Are these 7 days of leave added to my usual 15 days of military leave?
No, the 7 days of leave are separate and available for those called to action due to an emergency declaration.
Do I have to use my usual 15 days of military leave before I can use the 7 additional days?
No, if you are called to action due to an emergency declaration, you will have a separate leave balance of 7 days independent of your usual 15 days of leave.
Paid Parental Leave
We are proud to announce an exciting new benefit in conjunction with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for City of Dallas employees expecting a newborn, newly adopted, or newly placed child — Paid Parental Leave.
On or after October 1, 2021, full or part-time City of Dallas employees who have given birth, need to care for, adopted, or received placement of a child age twelve or younger may be eligible to receive up to six weeks paid leave to help support the new addition to their family.
Paid Parental Leave runs concurrently with FMLA leave. City of Dallas employees must be eligible for FMLA leave before they can be approved for Paid Parental Leave.

Peace Officer Leave
The City of Dallas is honored to offer a new leave for employees of the police department, fire department, or marshal's office who hold an active peace officer license.
Peace Officer Leave allows up to five days of paid leave per fiscal year for peace officers who experience a traumatic event while on duty and the need for leave is verified by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.
The City of Dallas will keep requests for Peace Officer Leave and any medical information related to mental health leave confidential to the extent allowed by law. The City of Dallas will also not reduce other paid balances for mental health leave taken.

Peace Officer Leave FAQs
Who validates a traumatic event that makes me eligible for Peace Officer Leave?
The need for leave must be validated by a psychiatrist or psychologist. The leave approval process for Peace Officer Leave follows the same process for your department’s work group.
Do the five days of paid leave for Peace Officer Leave need to be taken at one time?
No. The leave can be taken in day-long increments for a total of five days in a fiscal year (October through September).
Who can take Peace Officer Leave?
Employees of the police department, fire department, or marshal's office who hold an active peace officer license are eligible to receive Peace Officer Leave.
Quarantine Leave (Q-Leave) — Civilian and Uniform
As of November 2, 2021, COVID-19 and COVID-21 Leaves were replaced by Quarantine Leave Uniform (Q-Leave Uniform) and Quarantine Leave Civilian (Q-Leave Civilian), respectively.
Q-Leave Uniform
Sworn members of the City of Dallas Fire or Police Department, emergency medical technicians, or detention officers who are ordered to quarantine by the employee's supervisor or the City's health authority due to a possible or known exposure to a communicable disease while on duty are eligible for Q-Leave Uniform.
Q-Leave Uniform allows these employees the opportunity to receive paid quarantine leave for the duration of the ordered quarantine or isolation. The City will not reduce an eligible employee's paid leave balance in connection with paid quarantine leave taken.
Q-Leave Civilian
Civilian City employees who present proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 via Apricity@Work™ will be eligible for up to 80 hours of Q-Leave Civilian. Q-Leave cannot be granted for those who fail to provide proof of full vaccination via Apricity@Work™.
