    ​The CMS Emergency Preparedness Rules

    ​In 2016, the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare established a rule on emergency preparedness for healthcare providers. The rule establishes national, consisten emergency preaparedness requirements for 17 different providers participating in Medicaid and Medicare. 

    The CMS Preparedness Rule dictates that all providers affected by the rule must develop and maintain a comprehensive emergency preparedness program containing the following:

    • Emergency Plan
    • Emergency Preparedness Policies and Procedures
    • Communications Plan
    • Emergency Training and Testing Program

    Each organization is responsible for developing their own plans. The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management is not responsible for commenting, editing, or revising any plan created by an organization. Dallas OEM can only confirm receipt of the plan.
