In 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) established rules for healthcare providers regarding emergency preparedness. The rule creates consistent emergency preparedness requirements for all 17 provider and supplier types participating in Medicare and Medicaid.
The CMS Preparedness Rule dictates that all providers affected by the rule must develop and maintain a comprehensive emergency preparedness program containing the following:
- Emergency Plan
- Emergency Preparedness Policies and Procedures
- Communications Plan
- Emergency Training and Testing Program
Each organization is responsible for developing their own plans. The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management is not responsible for commenting, editing, or revising any plan created by an organization. Dallas OEM can only confirm receipt of the plan.
