In 2015, The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management was awarded accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). This accreditation meets strict standards for Emergency Management Excellence.
At the time of accreditation, Dallas was the largest city in Texas, the 2nd largest city in the United States, and the 9th largest city overall to earn this accrediation. At that point, EMAP looked at 64 standards with 104 elements. The program continues to evolve over time to best assess Emergency management programs of all sizes and complexities.
Accreditation is good for five years, in 2020 OEM is working toward reaccrediation with all new standards and criteria.
