    Extreme heat - including a heat wave - is an extended period of time where​ temperatures are consistently 10 or more degrees above normal, often accompanied by high humidity.  These conditions are dangerous and can be life-threatening. Those most vulnerable include: the very young, older adults, those who are overweight and sick. Most heat-related illnesses are preventable.
