Let's Plan Together! Understanding the Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Presented by City of Dallas Planning & Urban Design (PUD) Department
The City of Dallas is beginning the process to update the ForwardDallas Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Adopted by City Council in 2006, the ForwardDallas Plan provides the citywide vision for future land development and establishes policy to guide zoning. Dallas has grown and changed a great deal since 2006. The way land is planned and used in our city affects the quality of all our lives. Learn about the planning process and how you can get involved in working together to create a plan that that actively promotes economic vitality, environmental sustainability and equity throughout Dallas.  Community Transformation Roadmap
Presented by Dr. Eric Anthony Johnson, Chief of Economic Development & Neighborhood Services
There is no doubt that Dallas, like many other cities, is facing a perfect storm of challenges.  Hear from Dr. Eric Anthony Johnson, Chief of Economic Development & Neighborhood Services with the City of Dallas, about the Community Transformation Roadmap. The Roadmap is designed to respond to the current economic and social landscape and to take advantage of this unique window of opportunity to re-calibrate and align collectively to help advance Dallas economically and socially.

 Protect Your Property Assets
Presented by UNT Dallas College of Law
Property owners can face a number of barriers.  Resources and tools will be provided to help combat these barriers, allowing property owners to utilize their property in a productive and progressive manner. Topics include homestead exemptions, vacant lot use, title resolutions such as Transfer on Death Deeds and Affidavits of Heirship. Also, learn practical steps to remedy heirship title issues to provide eligibility for tax credits and other city/county programs. Lastly, gain insight on how completing the 2020 census can result in funding and resources for communities.

Get an overview of the Texas Property Tax System with a focus on how the Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD) appraises property and administers exemptions. Receive an education about the residential appraisal process.  Learn about common terminology, the types of residential homestead exemptions as well as the benefits, qualifications and application process. Also, explore the wealth of knowledge at your fingertips that can found on the DCAD website at www.dallascad.org

There is a wealth of available data that can enable you to advocate for your neighborhood, if you know where to look and how to use it. Learn how to access data about your neighborhood and how to understand and use the data more effectively.  Get an overview of online, easy-to-use, publicly accessible data tools , where to find them, and ways to use this data to empower your neighborhood.

 Land Use Basics

Land Use Planning and Land Development can often be confusing, leaving many communities excluded from conversations about policies and decisions that impact their lives. Gain a basic understanding of land use planning, particularly concepts and terms that will be used throughout the Comprehensive Land Use Plan update. Emphasis will be placed on increasing awareness of the role of zoning and how development happens.
 
Area Planning: From the City to Your Neighborhood
Presented by City of Dallas Planning & Urban Design (PUD) Department
Get a comprehensive look at how planning can work at various scales, from the entire city all the way down to your neighborhood. Take a deep dive into the City's proposed pilot Area Planning program, while also highlighting how neighborhoods can conduct their own neighborhood planning efforts. The workshop will also feature resources that neighborhood organizations can utilize to begin assisting the city with planning efforts or to tackle their own neighborhood planning.
