Office of Government Affairs Home Page

The role of the Office of Government Affairs is to elevate the City's reputation by strategically positioning the organization as a policy and legislative leader through collaboration with local, state, federal and international elected and appointed officials, growing relationships and coalitions with peer cities and partner organizations, managing the most challenging issues to create order out of chaos, advocating for policies and competitive funding to achieve the City priorities, and sharing the City's story through focused communications and outreach.

Government Affairs

We serve as the primary point of contact between the City and other governmental entities and agencies. We maintain a communication network of policy makers and organizations to influence legislative initiatives. Reporting directly to the City Manager, we provide insight to the Mayor and City Council, as well as executive leadership, on policy matters relevant to the City.

  • Local

We engage local and regional officials on behalf of all residents of Dallas, to advocate for and partner on programs and services that meet the needs of our diverse community.

  • State

We partner with state leadership in Austin to support and advance legislation that promotes a vibrant quality of life for residents and business choosing to call Dallas home.

  • Federal

We work with the congressional delegation in Washington to advance our federal priorities, including legislation to support economic growth, environmental sustainability, and funding for water, mobility, and broadband infrastructure.

  • International

We welcome all to the City of Dallas, an international community with a diverse population and thriving workforce. The City is committed to growing its global presence while enhancing our international culture right here at home.

  •

    Redistricting

Mandated by the Dallas City Charter, the redistricting process is the redrawing of City Council district lines from which Council Members are elected. It usually takes place every 10 years after the Census releases its population data.
