Help Shape the Future of Garland Road

From the Gaston-Grand-Garland ("3G") intersection to I-635, we’re creating a community driven plan for a safer, better-connected, and more vibrant corridor, and we need your input!

Vehicles traveling along Garland Road.About the Study

Garland Road is one of East Dallas’s most important corridors, serving as a gateway that connects several long-established neighborhoods and communities to jobs, services, and the wider region.

It is also a corridor under pressure: crash rates remain elevated, traffic and travel habits have changed, and aging commercial areas face new development pressures.

The City of Dallas has launched the Garland Road Vision 2.0 study to create an actionable plan for the corridor’s future. Working with community and agency partners such as TxDOT, DART, and the NCTCOG, this study will:

  • Improve safety for the travelling public, in line with the City’s Vision Zero goals
  • Strengthen walking, biking, and transit connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools, and shopping areas
  • Keep traffic moving while making the street work better for the people who live along it
  • Identify land-use and development opportunities that fit into each neighborhood’s character
  • Explore longer-term transit possibilities for the corridor

The result will be an implementable plan that includes clear short-, mid-, and long-term actions.

The Study Area

The study focuses on Garland Road and the communities around it, from the Gaston-Grand Garland ("3G") intersection near the White Rock Lake spillway to I-635. The corridor passes some of Dallas’s best-known places (White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum, and Casa Linda Plaza) and connects neighborhoods including Lakewood, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills, Casa Linda, Casa View, and Lochwood.

Phase 1: Engage - Listening & Learning

We start by listening. Through the online map, community survey, pop-up events, and stakeholder conversations, we’re learning how you use Garland Road today and what you want it to become.

Phase 2: Connect - Developing & Testing Ideas

Community input is combined with data on safety, traffic, land use, and market conditions to develop corridor concepts and scenarios. You’ll review draft ideas and tell us what works.

Phase 3: Transform - Building the Plan

The refined vision becomes an implementable transformative planning document that is presented back to the community and to City leadership for review and comment.

Provide Feedback

Your experience on Garland Road (as a resident, business owner, commuter, or visitor) is the most important data this study will collect. There are two ways to share it right now:

Place a Marker, Share Your Experience

On the map below, use the three marker categories (safety, mobility, land use/development) to articulate your thoughts about the corridor. What places do you love and want to protect? Where do you feel it’s currently unsafe to cross Garland Road? Where would additional mobility options be helpful? Click anywhere on the map to place a marker and tell us about that spot.

Take the Community Survey

The survey takes less than 10 minutes, and every response directly shapes the plan’s priorities.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

 1. What is the Garland Road Vision 2.0?

Garland Road Vision 2.0 is a community-led planning effort to develop an updated vision for the future of the Garland Road corridor. Building on the 2010 Garland Road Vision Study, Garland Road Vision 2.0 will evaluate current conditions and identify opportunities to improve safety, mobility, economic vitality, neighborhood character, and public spaces while guiding future public and private investment.

2. How is the Garland Road Vision 2.0 different from the 2010 study?

The 2010 Garland Road Vision Study established a long-term community vision for the corridor and identified recommendations related to transportation, land use, economic development, and corridor character. Garland Road Vision 2.0 builds on that work by reassessing the corridor more than 15 years later, using current data and community input to evaluate how conditions and priorities have changed and to identify updated, implementable recommendations for Garland Road.

3. Where is the study area?

The study focuses on approximately 5.5 miles of Garland Road, from Interstate 635 to Gaston Avenue, including the area within approximately half-mile of the corridor.

4. What topics will the study address?

The study will evaluate a variety of topics, including:

  • Transportation and mobility
