About the Municipal Library Board (MLB)

The Municipal Library Board consists of members appointed by the Dallas City Council. They are an advisory board that helps to keep the Library Director informed regarding their unique community needs. They also serve as a communication bridge between the library and the City Council.

Mission

In accordance with Dallas City Code, the Municipal Library Board is charged with advising the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager, and the Director of Libraries on matters related to library operations and services. The Board also assumes a supportive role through its promotion of the Library and its programs.

Purpose

The Municipal Library Board members serve as liaisons between the library and the communities in which they live. They also advocate for library funding and support as well as promoting library events within their communities. They offer feedback on potential changes to library policies and procedures and new program and outreach ideas.

Duties

Promote Library services that meet the needs of Dallas residents through the lens of equity,
Work alongside Library Director to modify the Dallas City Code where necessary in order to make library services more equitable and accessible to residents in Dallas,
Work more closely with the Friends of the Dallas Public Library and their efforts to support programs and goals established by the Dallas Public Library,
Maintain communication with the Council Members as it relates to support and needs of the Library,
Support and promote Library accomplishments.
