ALERT: New Short-Term Rental Ordinances

• On June 14, 2023, the City of Dallas enacted two ordinances to regulate the use of property as a   short-term rental (STR). On December 6, 2023, a temporary injunction was issued that prohibits enforcement of the STR ordinances. The temporary injunction does not affect existing ordinances relating to the obligation for STRs to register for and to pay Hotel Occupancy Taxes (HOT). Please see below for further information on HOT registration and payment.

ALERT: Hotel Occupancy Tax Rate Increase

• As of January 1, 2023, the new tax rate is 9%
• Prior to January 1, 2023, the tax rate was 7%
