Contest My Citation - Pre-Trial Hearing:

Plead not guilty and request a pre-trial hearing within the first 21 days of issuance of the citation. You may request a pre-trial hearing by mail and in person at the Court. Live chat, phone, and, email are not valid options.

To contest your citation at trial, you must attend a mandatory pre-trial setting. The pre-trial hearing is for the city prosecutor and the defendant to have an opportunity to discuss available options to resolve the case. You will receive a future trial date if the case is unresolved after the pre-trial hearing.


What you need to request a pre-trial: 

  •  Acceptable form of identification (Social Security cards and selfies (pictures) are NOT valid forms of identification);

For hours of operation

The City of Dallas Municipal Court does not have free or dedicated parking for the public. Paid parking options include street-metered parking, daily lots, and private garages. You will need to provide:


  • Acceptable form of identification (Social Security cards and selfies (pictures) are NOT valid forms of identification);

  • Request for a Pre-Trial;

  • Contact Information Form. 

***When you request a pre-trial by mail, please note this is a REQUEST ONLY.  The Court will provide a response by mail within 5-7 business days and will utilize the address listed on the contact information form. *** 

****If the citation is past due at the time of the request, the Court will provide a response by mail within 3-4 weeks and will utilize the address listed on the request.****


The Court uses the postmark date on the letter (stamped by the postal service) as the received date.  Mailing certified is recommended but is not required. 


What to Expect at a Pre-Trial Hearing:

  • The pro se defendant will be informed, via a video presentation, of his/her options to resolve a case. 

  • Pro-se defendants (not represented by an attorney) will have the opportunity to discuss the case with the prosecutor for a possible resolution. 

  • The case will be placed on a court docket for trial (jury or before the Judge) if the case is still unresolved after the pre-trial hearing. 

  • For cases involving an attorney, an additional pre-trial date may be added to ensure the defendant is present when entering his/her plea.
