Dallas Charter Review Commission Overview

Pursuant to Chapter II, Section 3 of the Charter, the Charter “shall be reviewed by a commission appointed by the council.” The Commission is responsible for reviewing the Charter and submitting a report to the city council no later than May 21, 2024. After receiving the Commission’s report, the city council may adopt, modify, or disregard the Commission’s recommended amendments and/or propose its own. The city council is in the process of reviewing the Commission's recommendations.

Mission

The mission of the Charter Review Commission is to review and recommend amendments to the Dallas City Charter, if necessary, to ensure the effective governance of the city.

Vision

The Charter Review Commission is reflective of the City’s diverse community and will ensure residents are represented in the process.

Duties

Dallas City Charter, Chapter II, Section 3 requires that the Charter be reviewed by a Charter Review Commission every 10 years.
