Clifton Gillespie
Director of Sanitation​

Cliff was appointed Director of Sanitation in July 2023. He has over 18 years of public service experience, including 14 years in local government management with the City of Dallas. He has been with the Department of Sanitation since 2019, having previously served as Interim Direc​​tor, and as Assistant Director for Operations, overseeing public and support services, including refuse and recycle collections, brush and bulky item pick up, fleet operations, environment, safety, training, outreach and engagement, and enforcement. Prior to working with Sanitation, Cliff served in various management roles with the City. Before coming to the City of Dallas, Cliff previously worked for the Louisiana State Senate as a legislative researcher.

Cliff is a certified manager of integrated solid waste management systems by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), and serves as president of the Texas Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (TxSWANA). He holds a Master of Public Affairs and Graduate Certificate in Local Government Management from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana State University.
