Dallas Power and Light East Substation
The Dallas Power and Light East Substation, constructed in 1920, provided electic power to the Street Railway System of Dallas. Dallas Power and Light viewed the availability of electric power as essential to the growth of the City of Dallas, and promoted its construction of the substation as evidence of its willingness to assist in the growth of the city. The inclusion of the Georgian-inspired cornice with dentils, medallions, and windows were an attempt to stylize what would otherwise be a utilitarian building.
