General Project Timeline


Projects unfold through several phases of development and construction. The public is engaged throughout the process through community meetings and public comment periods. The length of a project can depend on factors such as funding. 

Master plan(s): Conceptual phase. General ideas for potential projects are outlined in long-term planning documents. 

Project development: Ideas move toward reality. Scope is determined, which includes details such as key design components, budget estimates, etc.

Early design: Preliminary engineering layout based on field visits.

Final design: Adjustments are incorporated into the final design and the project is ready for construction.

Pre-construction: Project goes out for bid and a company is selected.

Construction: Work begins.

Wrap-up: Reviewing work to ensure the project meets the scope and closing out the project.
