The 2025 Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway is here!​

Registration is open from Sept. 2 - 30. See registration information and link below.​



What to know before you register:

You may register for only ONE tree per residence. Registered participants must pick up their tree on Dallas Arbor Day, Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the distribution location selected during registration. Tree delivery is not available. To pick up your tree, you must show a valid government issued ID or Dallas Water Utilities water bill with the address associated with your registration.

What you need to register:

  • You must live in the City of Dallas. Residents of adjacent cities are not eligible to register.
  • You must have a nine-digit Dallas Water Utilities account number. It always begins with the number "1"
  • You must include the zip code of your service address
  • You must provide an email address and phone number to receive updates regarding your registration

How to use the registration page:

On the registration page, you will be prompted to enter your "Authentication ID" which is a combination of your water account number and your service address zip code. You will place a hyphen (-) between the two.

For example: Your account number is 100012345. Your service address zip code is 75201.

You will enter: 100012345-75201

About Branch Out Dallas

The Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program was launched in the fall of 2018 and, because of the growing demand and participation, it is now part of the Dallas Arbor Day annual celebration.  Click here to see the Mayor's 2024 Dallas Arbor Day proclamation.

Branch Out Dallas is held annually. Residents select a five-gallon tree from varieties that ​are hardy and suited for the North Texas region.  The program is led by DWU staff in partnership with the city's Forestry team, and is supported by volunteers and civic groups who help distribute the trees to residents of Dallas.

The Branch Out Dallas program was started as an effort to reduce the heat island effect and to increase the overall tree canopy in the city.  Each tree planted helps Dallas get closer to meeting these goals. Trees benefit the urban environment by reducing stormwater runoff to drainage systems, cooling temperatures, improving air quality and mitigating the heat island effect. ​Homeowners who plant a tree in their yard benefit by saving energy, cooling the air and adding shade.  Program inquiries can be sent to BranchOutDallas@dallas.gov.

Branch Out Dallas supports city-wide initiatives:  

  • Trees improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, cool temperatures and reduce the heat island effect
  • Residents can replace damaged or aging trees
  • Increases the  overall tree canopy citywide
  • Trees improve residents' quality of life
  • Public education on green initiatives
  • Supports neighborhood beautification efforts
