Scope and Content
Collection consists of a copy of a manuscript letter from Roy S. Druly to Colonel C.J. Beam of New Paris, Ohio, dated March 1872, concerning the quality of life in Dallas. No biographical information is available on Beam. Druly, an attorney, later became City Secretary of the City of Dallas.
The letter delineates three basic themes promoting the positive aspects of Dallas: transportation and infrastructure, climate and soil, and commerce. Druly mentions the recently built iron bridge across the Trinity River, the County courthouse under construction, and the impending arrival in July of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad, Dallas’ first railway connection.
