Scope and Contents
The collection consists of two bound Dallas public schools estimated budget reports for the years 1934-35 and 1939-40.
When it was first established in 1884, the Dallas public school system consisted of six schools and was administered by the City of Dallas' School Board. In 1947, following a nationwide trend and after repeated requests to separate the school system from municipal control, the Texas Legislature amended the city charter and severed the Dallas Public School District from the City of Dallas, establishing the Dallas Independent School District. Today the district is the twelfth largest in the nation, the second largest in the state, and one of the largest employers in the city.
Organization
The collection is arranged by page number.
