Scope and Content
The collection consists of studies, reports, and programs relating to public health issues in the City and County of Dallas from 1947-1969. Included in the collection are copies of several ordinances addressing public health concerns, as well as a letter from Dallas Mayor Earle Cabell asking the Advisory Public Health Board to investigate the establishment of a city wide emergency ambulance service.
The Advisory Public Health Board advised the city council, the city manager, and the director of public health and made recommendations and suggestions "upon matters relating to public health" (Ordinance 2355, June 24, 1931, Dallas City Code, Section 19-1). The Advisory Public Health Board evolved from the Board of Health, which was created in 1919. The Board of Health was abolished in 1931 with the passage of an ordinance by the first City Council under the new council-manager form of government.
Organization
The collection is arranged chronologically.
