Scope and Content
Collection contains two reports on open space. One is Natural Open Space Plan published by the Department of Urban Planning. The report contains recommendations for the acquisition, regulation, and management of natural areas in Dallas. The second is Dallas County Open Space Plan published by the Dallas County Commissioners Court. While this second report is not a City of Dallas publication, it complements the city plan for discussions on open spaces and urbanization.
The Natural Open Space Plan addresses lands that, because of their natural resource or natural hazard, should remain open and not altered or developed. The report provides recommendations regarding land acquisition, regulation, and management.
Both the Goals for Dallas program and the city's Environmental Equality Committee urged the city to conduct an updated open space review since new concerns, such as a larger population and pollution considerations, had arisen since the previous report in 1959.
