Scope and Content

In May 2003, Dallas police officer Rick Stone's contributions to the history of the Dallas Police Department were chosen to be included in a series of bronze plaques created by New York artist Greg Lefevre that were installed at the entrance to the newly constructed Jack Evans Police Headquarters Building. The images document the installation of the plaques. 

Sculptor/photographer Gregg LeFevre has created over 120 site-specific public artworks in cast metal and has had his works commissioned by New York, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Seattle, Los Angeles, and many other American cities.

The Dallas Police Department was created in 1872.  As of 201​6, it employed 3640 sworn officers and 556 civilians.  The department is charged with preserving the peace, enforcing city laws, protecting lives and property, preventing and detecting crime, and arresting lawbreakers.

Organization

The collection is organized by sequential digital file numbers.  Metadata within each file indicates the date the image was created and other details.

Access

Permission to publish, reproduce, distribute, or use by any and all other current or future developed methods or procedures must be obtained in writing from the Dallas Municipal Archives.  All rights are reserved and retained regardless of current or future development or laws that may apply to fair use standards.
