Scope and Content
Collection includes programs, tickets, awards lists, and other banquet planning documents.
The inaugural Fire Department Award Banquet was held at the Adolphus Hotel in 1961, and five-hundred forty-one people attended. It was to recognize the Fire Department members for their devotion to making Dallas a safe place to live and work. The banquet was held in multiple spaces, including the Adolphus Hotel, as mentioned, the Municipal Auditorium, Dallas Market Hall, and the Dallas Convention Center.
Awards given to firefighters during this time include the Julius Schepps Civic Award for community service, the Bob Cullum Safe Driving Award, and the District Safety Award.
The fire chiefs during these years were CN Penn, Merrell C Hendrix, and Dodd Miller.
