DCH Body
Page Content

The City of Dallas’ School Crossing Guard Program provides competent adult supervision to assist unaccompanied elementary students crossing streets near schools on their way to and leaving schools in Dallas City Limits. To ensure the safety of all students, each crossing guard receives comprehensive training on traffic laws and codes of the State of Texas and the City of Dallas pertaining to general pedestrian safety on public roadways (intersections/crosswalks). This program provides crossing guards for 7 Independent School Districts and 5 private schools located in Dallas City Limits.

CRITERIA FOR PLACEMENT OF CROSSING GUARDS

The City of Dallas Transportation Department developed a School Crossing Guard Assessment Criteria based on prevalent industry standards. In summary, a crossing guard is justified if: 20 or more unsupervised students are crossing lane/lanes, or students are crossing 4 or more lanes, or Exposure Index or Gap Study Warrant is met.
