A code amendment was initiated by City Plan Commission (CPC) at the December 2, 2021 meeting. CPC authorized a hearing to consider specifically define a new use, "Short-term rental lodging" within the Lodging Uses sections of Chapters 51 and 51A, as well as related regulations.

On June 14, 2023 City Council discussed and approved amendments to Chapters 51 and 51A of the Dallas City Code to create a new lodging use called "Short-term rental lodging" and related regulations. The final approved ordinance can be accessed

At the same meeting, City Council also approved a registration ordinance that will be administered by Code Compliance Services. This ordinance can be accessed

All short-term rentals must comply with both zoning and registration ordinances to legally operate within the City of Dallas.
