DCH Body
Update 8:45 a.m. 1/10/2025

Thursday garbage and recycling routes will resume at 10 a.m. today. Crews will begin Friday routes if Thursday routes are completed early. Any remaining Friday routes will be serviced tomorrow (Saturday), as conditions allow. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Continue to monitor updates for the latest information.

Update 11 a.m. 1/9/2025

Due to deteriorating street conditions, all Thursday collection routes have been suspended. Customers are advised to leave their carts at the collection point. Sanitation will attempt to collect these carts on Friday or Saturday as conditions allow.

Friday route customers may place their carts at the collection point, but please note that collection may be significantly delayed or postponed this week. Continue to monitor updates for the latest information.

January 7, 2025

As North Texas braces for its coldest weather of the season, we want to inform our customers about how the winter storm may impact garbage, recycling, and brush and bulky item collections scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week.

Our Commitment to Service

Sanitation is committed to keeping operations on schedule, even during inclement weather. Customers should assume that collections will occur on time unless we announce otherwise. However, this week’s Arctic air mass and expected snowfall (1–3 inches or more) may present challenges that require adjustments to our schedule.

How Weather May Impact Operations

Our crews will report to work on Thursday and Friday as they are safely able. Supervisors will scout road conditions early each day, and routes will begin only if deemed safe. Here’s what you should know:

  • Late Starts or Cancellations: If conditions remain unsafe by 11 a.m., collections will be suspended for the day.
  • Schedule Adjustments:
    • If Thursday collections are canceled, they will occur Friday.
    • If Friday collections are canceled, they will occur Saturday.
    • In the event that both days are canceled, Thursday’s collections will occur Saturday, and Friday’s will be held until the following week.
    • If there is a late start on Thursday and/or Friday, it may be determined that all routes cannot be completed. In such cases, all available resources may be focused on prioritizing on-time garbage collection for that day, with recycling potentially delayed until the following week.

We recognize that weather-related changes can be inconvenient, but these measures ensure the safety of our crews, who face risks like frostbite and hypothermia while working in freezing conditions, as well as the dangers posed by icy roads for heavy equipment and the potential for sagging or downed utility lines.
