​The Dallas Department of Transportation and Public Works is evaluating the impacts of converting McKinney and Cole avenues and nearby roadways from one-way configurations into two-way streets.

Among the project's goals is to calm traffic and improve safety along a project area that extends 4.5 miles between Allen Street and Harvard Avenue. While the City of Dallas is the lead agency on this project, the Texas Department of Transportation and Uptown Dallas, Inc., are funding partners.

Project Scope

The scope of work includes converting the following roads to two-way streets (View map):

  • McKinney Avenue between Allen Street and Harvard Avenue
  • Harvard Avenue between McKinney Avenue and Cole Avenue
  • Cole Avenue between Harvard Avenue to Carlisle Street
  • Carlisle Street between Cole Avenue and Allen Street
  • Allen Street from Carlisle Street to McKinney Avenue
The project includes additional improvements such as upgraded traffic signals, signage, markings, and traffic calming methods to improve safety along the corridor.

Public meeting:
TPW hosted an in-person public meeting on Oct. 2, 2024, at William B. Travis Academy, 3001 McKinney Ave., in Dallas. Public comments for this meeting were accepted through Oct. 16, 2024.

This project is early in the design process. Additional meetings and opportunities for community input will be scheduled as the design process continues.
