The Commissioners are appointed for a two year term, beginning on September 1 of each odd-numbered year and serve without compensation. 

Members of the commission must meet the following qualifications:
(1) All members must demonstrate outstanding interest in historic preservation and have knowledge and experience in the fields of history, art, architecture, or historic preservation.
