Emergencies and disasters can evolve quickly. Public safety officials and partners utilize a variety of different tools to warn and alert the public. We urge residents to sign-up and utilize the notification systems listed below to  stay up to date with notifications during an emergency.

  • IPAWS is a national system for local alerting that provides information to the public through mobile phones (Wireless Emergency Alerts), radio and television (Emergency Alert System), and NOAA Weather Radio (Non-Weather Emergency Messages).
  • NOAA Weather Radios are primarily used to send out weather alerts at all times of the day or night, but can also be used through IPAWS for disseminating Non-Weather Emergency Messages. Most weather radios can be battery powered to operate even during power outages. These may require minimal set up after purchase. Search "NOAA Weather Radios" on Google for purchasing options.
  • Broadcast Media is a major source of real-time information during emergencies. The media will broadcast Emergency Alert System notifications and provide live updates during emergencies.
  • Phone Apps are available for most smart phones from weather services that can provide emergency alerts. These have to be downloaded and set up for your area.

Opt-In Alerts and Warnings:

  • DallasAlert is an opt-in notification system that allows residents to sign up for emergency notifications by voice call, text message, and email. Residents should sign up by visiting: DallasAlert.com.
  • The City Employee Notification System (CENS) is a notification system available for City of Dallas employees.

By signing up for or using multiple alert and warning systems, residents and visitors to the City of Dallas can increase their ability to stay informed and safe during an emergency. Set up your alerts today.
