Forms / Applications

Certificate of Appropriateness

Certificates of Appropriateness (CAs) are required before exterior work (including landscaping) can be undertaken on City of Dallas Landmarks or on structures in Landmark districts. Minor changes generally require only staff approval, but substantial alterations require approval of the Landmark Commission, which meets the first Monday of each month in City Hall, Room 6EN, Council Chambers. Contact the Historic Preservation Staff to determine whether your proposed work will require staff review or Landmark Commission approval. The main number is 214/670-4209.

Courtesy Review

Courtesy Reviews (CRs) may be applied for review by Landmark Commission for large scale projects that may not necessarily conform to a specific preservation criteria or the property owner wants a degree of comfort before investing time and financial resources developing a certain development scheme. CRs are not to be substituted for CAs and a building permit may not be applied with a Landmark Commission reviewed CR form.

The submittal schedule for CR's is the same as Certificate of Appropriateness forms. See schedule here.

Certificate for Demolition or Removal

Certificate for Demolition or Removal (CDs) are required when a demolition of any structure within an historic district must occur. There are five criteria to choose from when applying for a CD to be reviewed by Landmark Commission.
