The
purpose of the Special Provision Sign District (SPSD) is to establish a
geographic area where standard sign regulations are modified to be more
restrictive, or in some cases more lenient, than what the normal
provisions for signs in the Dallas Development Code allow. The
established geographic areas need to have a unique character and special
development potential. Special regulations are then required to
enhance, preserve, and develop the character, quality, and property
values of the designated areas.
In SPSD's
a Certificate of Appropriateness (CA) must be obtained prior to the
issuance of a sign permit. Applications are submitted at Building
Inspection at the Oak Cliff Municipal Center, 320 E. Jefferson
Boulevard, and are reviewed by the Department of Sustainable Development
and Construction. If the application meets certain conditions, it is
reviewed and approved or denied by the Director of Sustainable
Development and Construction (e.g. if sign area is 50 sq. ft. or less).
If the sign does not meet these conditions, the Special Sign District
Advisory Committee will review the application and make a recommendation
to the City Plan Commission.
