DALLAS BIKE PLAN

DCH Body

Page Content

Dallas is at an exciting juncture in the development of its bicycle network. With miles of bike infrastructure already installed, Dallas has made substantial progress establishing a solid foundation for a bicycle network city-wide. The challenge for us now is how to build upon this existing framework and grow a comfortable, safe, and connected bicycle network that serves the different types of bicyclists in Dallas.

Introduction

This effort was to update the City’s 2011 Dallas Bike Plan. Dallas City Council passed the updated Dallas Bike Plan on May 28, 2025. This new bicycle master plan lays out future bicycle and roadway improvements needed for Dallas and  focused on building connected bicycle routes that help you safely get from your home to your work, school, parks, and other destinations. A "North Star" was established for the new Dallas Bike Plan:

We aspire to a multi-modal Dallas that has a bike system for All Ages and Abilities connecting people to the places they want to go. We envision more people traveling by bike or other micromobility devices for short trips.

Dallas Bike Plan Network Amendments

The bike network identified in the Dallas Bike Plan guides the implementation of bicycle facilities in Dallas. However, it is anticipated that changes will need to be made to this plan. Annually, staff will accept amendment proposals, develop staff recommendations, seek public comment, and present the amendments to City Council for adoption by resolution.  Amendments will be evaluated on the basis of directness, comfort, and connectivity. The intent is to develop a network that is flexible to real world influences such as major developments while prioritizing the safety and comfort of bicyclists in Dallas utilizing the identified Bike Network.

The general timeline is as follows:
