Project Overview

The City of Dallas Department of Transportation has presented proposed safety improvements to Maple Avenue between Mockingbird Lane and Oak Lawn Avenue. DDOT hosted a public meeting on July 31, 2024, that focused on Maple Avenue between Mockingbird Lane and Oak Lawn Avenue to gather feedback on proposed safety improvements along the corridor.

The proposed improvements include a reconfiguration of the roadway from four lanes to three lanes with bike lanes, new or enhanced pedestrian crossings, and sidewalk and traffic signal imoprovements.

The corridor was identified as a priority in the city's Vision Zero Action Plan and the draft Dallas Bike Plan (2023 update). The July 31 meeting included additional analysis to better understand the impacts of the improvements that were presented in a February 2023 meeting.

Other Improvements

While we work on long term plans for the future of Maple Avenue, we have also been working on some near-term safety improvements.

To jumpstart this effort, pavement markings were refreshed in December 2023. Pedestrian countdown timers were installed at traffic signals, and traffic signal heads were upgraded with refelctive backplates in January 2024. In December 2024, additional streetlights were installed between Wycliff Avenue and Medical District Drive in locations that did not meet city illumination standards.
